2018 is right around the corner and with it comes a list of resolutions and “to-dos.” While we don’t want to add to an extensive list, we do want to help you accomplish your “must get dones” next year.
- “I will take an inventory of my product warranties.”
Your roof, appliances, chimney, and more may have warranties for both the materials and installation. Gathering these warranties together to get an idea what work may need to be redone or what material might need replacement soon will give you a better understanding of what needs to be done around the house.
- “I am going to write down the maintenance tasks to be done in the house.”
Everyone has a “to-do” list in their heads, but time seems to rush by and occasionally these tasks don’t get done or are delayed so long that an item which needed maintenance now needs replacement. Instead of keeping it all in your head, write a list of maintenance to-dos along with when they should be done by.
- “I will create a home maintenance checklist.”
You have maintenance actions that need to be done regularly during certain times of the year – like cleaning the gutters. Separately you have special maintenance that needs to be done less frequently – like getting the sinks snaked. Making a checklist of both types of home maintenance actions will help you plan ahead in 2018, keeping problems from piling up and getting worse. This kind of list can help keep your house running smoothly, and save you money too!
- “I will do my research to find the companies I want to use for the necessary work.”
Finding the right company for the job can take time you may not have later on, when maintenance is due or a problem needs to be fixed urgently. Ask friends and neighbors for their recommendations, look online for well-reviewed businesses, and take a look at the company’s CCB number. Find the right contractor or company for the job now, before the work needs to be done.
- “I will get quotes for my checklist items.”
Setting your budget for your checklist is key in getting it done. Be sure to get quotes from or understand the pricing structure of the companies you choose. This way you know exactly what to expect when you’re ready to schedule the work to be done.
Organizing your to-dos now, while you’re getting all of your other resolutions listed can save you time and money in the long run. So start your “to do” list and let us know how we can help!
