When you think of the dirtiest spot in your home, what do you think of? Many of us would naturally guess, the toilet or other unsavory locations. While this of course varies from home to home, there are other common items that carry many more times the amount of bacteria than the usual toilet seat.

Faucets. When you grab the handle with dirty hands to start the water, grime and bacteria are transferred from your hands to the handle. Be sure your hand washing is getting your hands clean by sanitizing your faucets regularly.

Cutting boards. Many of the foods we eat carry hosts of bacteria – some are beneficial for our health while others can be very dangerous. Be mindful of the small cuts you make on your cutting board when chopping food, as these are prime locations for bacteria to grow. Clean them with a solution of 2 teaspoons of bleach and a gallon of water.

Kitchen sponges. As we scrub food particles from dishes, the bacteria from food can get trapped in the sponge. Clean sponges by running them through the dishwasher on high heat, and replace your sponges often.
